Pain in dogs?

Pain in dogs is an unpleasant sensation that results from injury, irritation or inflammation of tissues or structures of the animal’s body.

There are two broad categories of pain: acute pain and chronic pain.

Acute pain

Acute pain occurs suddenly in response to an injury and disappears as the injury heals. Most acute pain resolves promptly once the painful stimulus is removed and the body has healed.

Chronic pain

Sometimes, in the case of chronic pain, the pain persists despite the removal of the painful stimulus and apparent healing of the body. In some cases pain arises in the absence of any obvious injury. Such a pain can also occur as a result of a degenerative process, for example as happens with arthritis.
